HOW TO
APPLY FOR A
HOME

Do you know someone who lives
in a substandard home who might qualify? Do you want to know if you might qualify?
These are the questions a potential
home-owner must consider:
Do you live in substandard
housing?
-
Have you
lived or worked in Debary, Deltona, Orange City, Osteen or Enterprise for at least one year?
Are you willing to commit
yourself and your family, age 18 or over, to 200 hours each of labor?
Do you have a verifiable
source of steady income?
If all of the above questions can be answered with "Yes" then it's possible
the interested applicant might qualify and
they should attend a Southwest
Volusia Habitat for Humanity Family Selection meeting on the
first Saturday
of the month
at 1:00 p.m. in the Thrift
Shop in Orange City at 196 W. Blue Springs.
People interested in
becoming one of our partnership families must attend one of our monthly inquiry/orientation meetings where they can ask questions, learn about the
family selection process, and the responsibilities which go along with being accepted as a
Habitat family.
The
selection of Habitat families is based on the need for a decent place to
live, ability to pay a no-interest bearing mortgage, and willingness to
work 200 hours in partnership with us as we build a home for them.
Applicants must be willing
to have us do a credit check, talk with their references, and visit in their home.
We build
basic three
bedroom homes with volunteers doing most of the construction.
A 20-year mortgage is based
on the actual cost of construction.
When we
'pass papers' and the house is turned over to the Habitat family, they
must pay a down payment of 1% of the cost of the house as well
the cost of the first year's taxes, insurance and
the termite prevention service.
